Following IDEAM guidelines, GeoPark, the University of La Sabana and consultancy company Aqualogs are carrying out critical research in the Llanos 34 block: the Hydrological and Hydraulic Study.

What is it about?

Although it sounds technical, the research is basically a study of water and flooding. We analyze how the rivers and streams in the area move, and how their behavior would change without the infrastructure in the block.

What is it for?

The study is to:

• Protect water and biodiversity

• Better understand flood phenomena

• Proactively prepare solutions to protect neighboring communities

Progress to date

During field trips, we have already reviewed more than 550 structures that convey water, including 438 drains, 61 bridges and 47 box culverts. We are also simulating rains and floods to compare scenarios with and without infrastructure.

Whats next

We have committed to sharing results with communities and authorities, and to proposing clear and responsible measures if changes in watercourses are detected. To listen to everyone, the entire process is carried out with open participation channels.

GeoPark believes that water is life and that to know it is to protect it. This study is an example of how science, the community and the Company can work together to protect the territory.
