Journalism that connects with nature: Strengthening environmental communication in Casanare and Putumayo

19 de June de 2025

GeoPark believes that caring for the environment begins with understanding it. Journalism is key to this, so we provided training in environmental and scientific communication to about 25 local journalists in Casanare and Putumayo departments, in partnership with the Alexander Von Humboldt Institute, a leading scientific institution in Colombia.

During the workshops, we engaged with journalists to reflect on the role of journalism in fostering environmental awareness, the power of information in promoting dialogue and civic engagement, as well as the significance of communicating responsibly and accurately on critical issues such as biodiversity, climate change, and sustainable development.

Coming together allowed us to exchange knowledge, explore tools to strengthen journalistic work from an environmental perspective, and bring the media even closer to scientific activity and the challenges of our territories.

This initiative complements our other training and relationship actions with different stakeholders, which reinforce our commitment to transparency, access to environmental information, and to building relationships of trust with our neighboring communities.

We are as committed as ever to communication that connects, inspires, and contributes to the stewardship of the territories we share.
