Investment of over 14 billion pesos improves rural connectivity and access to opportunities for hundreds of families in Villanueva, Casanare.
In partnership with Parex, we have officially completed the resurfacing of the Vara-Soceagro road, a strategic rural connectivity project in Villanueva, Casanare. A ‘Community Benefit Project’ within our socio-environmental investment area, the resurfacing facilitates community access to goods, services and markets in southern Casanare, boosting local productive activities.
Voluntary investment totalled more than 14 billion pesos to resurface 17.5 km of road. Local company Maboh worked for almost a year on the project, which is critically important to the mobility and economic activities of hundreds of rural families.
The Governor of Casanare, Cesar Ortiz Zorro, and the Mayor of Tauramena, Javier Alvarez, attended the opening ceremony along with their respective teams, as well as community leaders and local business representatives. The leaders highlighted the transformative nature of the road and its direct impact on the wellbeing of rural communities. Delivering the project shows how joint work between institutions, business and citizens closes development gaps and strengthens territorial development.
“This is a concrete example of how partnerships between the community, authorities and the private sector can create lasting works that transform. At GeoPark we believe that each infrastructure project is also an opportunity to create and share prosperity with our neighbors,” said Rocio Gaviria, our Corporate Director of Facilities and Processes.
We are in the final phase of strengthening the Tua bridge in Villanueva and the Pinalito bridge in Tauramena, important Community Benefit Projects being developed in partnership with the Government of Casanare and Parex, which total over 4 billion pesos in investment and will increase road safety in the communities.
These actions underscore our commitment to sustainable development in Casanare, where in over a decade we have invested more than 24 billion pesos in road improvements. We will continue to develop projects with a high social impact that strengthen infrastructure, promote territorial equality and consolidate our role of creating prosperity in the territories we operate in.
