Brighet Osorio, the engineer from Tauramena, Casanare who had a dream

2025-11-18

Brighet found her calling among protoboards, robots, and school projects in Tauramena, Casanare. From a young age, she dreamt that engineering could transform everyday life, solve problems and be a way of creating something of her own. That vision took her to Bogota and the Universidad de los Andes, where she embarked on a demanding and deeply revealing course.

More than formulas and circuits, Brighet learned perseverance at university. She had to repeat modules, study full time, work weekends, change cities, and settle into new academic rhythms. At every obstacle, she chose to continue.

Today, Brighet is graduating as an Electronics Engineer and becomes the first professional in her family. Her story is an inspiration to other young women in Colombia’s territories to believe in their talent and that they can surpass expectations and find their place in areas that would once have been off-limits.

Brighet is part of the University Scholarship Program for Women in Science and Engineering, a GeoPark initiative that since 2014 has supported young women from neighboring communities on their path to higher education, strengthening capacities, autonomy and new development opportunities in territories.

This achievement shows what Creating Value and Giving Back means: translating the work we do in territories into more roads, more knowledge and more opportunities for people.

We will continue supporting stories like Brighet’s and encourage people who dream and build from their communities.
