In Villavicencio and in partnership with IDEAM, we are building the first Regional Hydrometeorological Monitoring Center in Orinoquia, a pioneering initiative for the region.
We were proud to receive a visit on Friday from the IDEAM director, who saw first-hand the progress being made in this project that will mark a before and after in the way of understanding and facing the challenges of climate change in the region.
Why is this Center so important?
Because it will allow us to pivot from reaction to prevention. Thanks to real-time information on rivers, streams and climate variability, the Center will enable us to:
• Anticipate phenomena such as floods or droughts
• Strengthen risk management in municipalities in the region
• Support the decision-making of local authorities and rural communities
• Provide tools to productive sectors, academia and research
This has a clear purpose of protecting communities, caring for the environment and helping to adapt to climate change.
Private investment for Colombia
GeoPark is financing 100% of the 10 billion peso Center, which covers 1,700 m² and has reached over 60% completion.
This shows how the private sector can head solutions that have real impact and align with the National Climate Change Policy and the Sustainable Development Goals.
At GeoPark, sustainability is built with facts. This project underscores our commitment to Create Value and Give Back, generating long-term prosperity for the territories where we operate.
